The Community of Azqueltan Denounces New Threats and Dispossession of its Territory

To the Zapatista Army of National Liberation
To the peoples and governments of Mexico
To the human rights organizations
To the media.

From the Tepehuano and Wixárika territory of the autonomous indigenous community of San Lorenzo de Azqueltán in the municipality of Villa Guerrero, Jalisco, we denounce that due to the negligence of authorities and governments at all three levels, our communal territory is once again threatened by violence and dispossession.

We point out that a person by the name of Manuel de Jesús Aguilar Herrera, known to be linked to the violent cacique Fabio Flores Sánchez, alias La Polla, went to the home of a fellow community member to threaten to evict the cattle that the community member has, threatening her minor daughter that he would use the municipal government and criminal groups to do so.

Consequently, yesterday, Wednesday, November 29, 2023, municipal patrols from Villa Guerrero conducted rounds and illegal searches, entered the ranch, looked at the houses, animals and livestock of Villa Guerrero and threatened to evict her partner’s cattle.
the houses, animals and livestock of our compañera.

We alert the governments and peoples of Mexico of these illegal acts, which could lead to violent acts that once again threaten the life and integrity of the community members.

We announce that our community will guard the Amoltita property in an organized and indefinite manner, that we will not allow any dispossession and we call on the native peoples, solidarity collectives, human rights organizations and the media to remain vigilant to the actions of the governments and caciques who covet what we have defended for centuries, and which we will not stop defending today, so that, as has happened before, there is a latent risk of a possible attack.

We warn that in view of the impunity with which these criminals act and the negligence shown by the various government agencies, there are real red lights in the communal territory and of which the governments have full knowledge, so they are and will be directly responsible for any unfortunate situation that may occur.

Sincerely
November 2023
Autonomous Indigenous Community of San Lorenzo de Azqueltán, municipality of Villa Guerrero, Jalisco.
