Memorials in Bern and Berlin for Martyred PKK Guerrillas

A commemoration was held for commander Ece Yılmaz (Edessa Cejna), who fell in Dersim on 14 October 2023, Dilara Ölmez (Ekin Rodî) and guerrillas Kemal Merwan Oso (Canşêr Şêrawa), who were declared martyrs in Zap on 19 March 2024. Komalên Civakên Kurdistan (KCK) Executive Council member Zübeyir Aydar, relatives of the martyrs and hundreds of Kurdistan citizens attended the tribute.

Artist Kawa Urmiyê said: “Our guerrillas fighting against the fascist enemy in four parts of Kurdistan never give the enemy a chance and are moving towards victory. We are fighting for the freedom of Leader Apo [Abdullah Öcalan], who has been subjected to the Imrali torture system for 25 years, and for the status of Kurdistan. We will not give the Turkish state an opportunity. We will continue our struggle both in the Media Defense Areas, in the metropolises and in the European arena until Leader Apo regains his physical freedom and the Kurdish people gain their rights. The struggle of our guerrillas lights our way and we will realize the dreams of our martyrs. We believe in this and we make our promise here.”

KCK Executive Council member Zübeyir Aydar said: “There is a great war in our country and we are all in this war. We migrated here because of these wars. We must question why we are here. It is a difficult war, for a long time, of course, but we will continue our struggle. Every year the enemy promises to end the guerrilla, but every year these promises come to nothing. The Freedom Guerrillas are expanding the struggle and advancing step by step towards victory.”

A commemoration event was also held in Berlin for commander Edessa Cejna (Ece Yılmaz), who fell a martyr in Dersim on 14 October 2023, and guerrilla Dijwar Tolhildan (Mustafa Yalçınkaya), who fell as a martyr in Garê on 2 March 2022.

The commemoration organized by DEST-DAN Women’s Assembly and the Assembly of Free Kurds (Nav-Berlin) at the Democratic Kurdish Community Center started with a minute’s silence in memory of the martyrs of Kurdistan in the persons of Edessa Cejna and Dijwar Tolhildan.

Nav-Berlin co-chair Nursel Yıldız said: “Until our leadership is free, and we can live freely in our lands, we will have martyrs. For this reason, no matter what, we will continue our struggle until we realize the dreams of our martyrs and ensure the physical freedom of our Leader.”

Nav-Berlin Martyrs’ Families Commission member Dayê Gozê, Mehmet Koçer and politician Muharrem Aral made a speech on behalf of the family of Martyr Edessa Cejna.

Dayê Goze said that everyone who has fought for the freedom of their country and land has paid the price and added: “We are shedding our blood for our own country and free land. For this reason, no matter what happens, we will follow in the footsteps of our martyrs everywhere.”

Mehmet Koçer said: “The martyrs are our martyrs. They are the martyrs of Kurdistan, and of the freedom struggle.”

Politician Muharrem Aral said: “It is necessary to understand why our comrades who were in search of freedom gave their lives for the struggle. In order to understand this, it is necessary to know the PKK reality well.”
