Anti-Guerrilla Detachment Falls into a Guerrilla Ambush in the Philippines

A police officer was killed and five government soldiers were injured in an ambush by guerrillas of the New People’s Army in Las Navas, northern Samar, on Monday. The anti-guerrilla detachment was heading towards the village of Osang in Catubig, when the guerrillas detonated IEDs around 7 a.m.

The injured are three police officers from the 1st Company of the PNP Mobile Force, based in the town of Catubig, and two soldiers from the army’s 20th Infantry Battalion, based in Las Navas. This is the second IED attack in the town of Catubig this year, targeting law enforcement. On March 22, guerrillas detonated IEDs in the village of Nagoocan, injuring a soldier.
